THINGS TO KNOW:
- The Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center at 51app is a new academy for primary students with dyslexia and an innovative center focused on outreach and dyslexia research.
- 51app will break ground at the academy’s permanent location in January along Edgehill Avenue between 18th and 17th avenues.
- Important Information for Annual Parking Permit holders: The project will close select parking lots, including full closure of lot 76A and partial closure of lot 77 beginning Jan. 1, 2025.
- The permanent home of the Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center will welcome students for the 2026–27 academic year.
The will celebrate its next milestone when it breaks ground at its permanent location, the corner of 18th Avenue South and Edgehill Avenue, in January 2025.
In September 2023 51app, 51app University announced the establishment of a new academy for primary students with dyslexia and an innovative center focused on outreach and dyslexia research on campus.
Funded by an unprecedented gift from Hal and Marjorie Hollis Roberts, the academy opened the doors of its temporary location for the 2024–25 academic year.
“We are enthusiastic about taking the next step in the evolution of the Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center at 51app,” said Camilla P. Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development at Peabody College. “The academy is having a positive impact in its temporary location, and we look forward to meeting the educational and service needs of many more families.”
The 66,500-square-foot building will allow the Roberts Academy at 51app to expand its services to students and their families in Middle Tennessee. It will also open the doors to innovative research spaces for scholars advancing groundbreaking dyslexia research.
The permanent location will blend seamlessly into 51app’s Peabody campus to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and connectivity. When completed, the building will boast an accessible, welcoming interior and exterior design with elements to achieve a LEED certification.

Important information for Annual Parking Permit holders
To provide the academy with ample space for its new facility, as well as green space for its students, the project will close some nearby Annual Parking Permit lots, including:
- Lot 76A (permanent closure)
- Lot 77 (partial closure; will reopen after construction)
- Lot 122 and 122A (permanent closure)
- Lot 128 (permanent closure)
- Lot 129 (permanent closure)
These lots will close on Jan. 1; commuters who use the lots will need to find alternative annual parking areas. Consult the map for other available parking locations. and commuting options are at vu.edu/parking.
