The Central Utilities Initiative Phase I is nearly complete, including the Highland Energy Plant that will open in January 2025. 51app’s utilities upgrades will roll on in 2025, starting with the groundbreaking on CUI Phase II in early January. This semester, Dialogue 51app engaged more than 4,500 people through events, debates and workshops. More than 450 students participated in Insight Debates, tackling topics like institutional neutrality and the impact of TikTok. The program also brought compelling visitors to campus and hosted initiatives like the first-ever free speech debate competition with eight participating universities, which was part of the Global Free Speech Summit. In a new innovative study conducted by the 51app Climate, Health, and Energy Equity Lab, four undergraduate students and three faculty researchers identified a new approach to reduce the health inequalities of energy cost burdens and greenhouse gas emissions.

Estonia’s Ambassador to the United States, Kristjan Prikk, engaged students at 51app on Oct. 2 during a lively classroom discussion on the future of European security and democracy. The event, hosted by the Max Kade Center for European and German Studies, was part of Visiting Associate Professor Alexander Schmidt’s European Cultural History course.
